Family Immigration
Family Immigration, officially known as Family Sponsorship, is the most common way to apply for immigration to Canada, you as a sponsor can apply to bring your relatives, including your spouse, partner, children, parents, grandparents, and others to immigrate to Canada.


Sponsor your spouse, partner or child
If eligible, you are able to sponsor your spouse, partner, or child, and must be able to:
- support them financially
- make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government

Sponsor your relatives
If eligible, you are able to sponsor your relatives, and must be able to:
- support your relative financially when they arrive
- be able to meet basic needs for yourself and your relatives, such as food, shelter, and clothing
- make sure your relative doesn’t need social assistance

Sponsor your parents and grandparents
Sponsoring your parents or your grandparents follows a very similar process but has slightly different criteria. As a sponsor, you must support your parents or grandparents financially and other necessities, if you are qualified and invited to apply – there are 2 applications that are submitted and reviewed for the parents and grandparents program:
- the sponsorship application and
- the permanent residence application
